The Anishinaabemowin Language Program

At Eenchokay Birchstick School, our students pariticipate in Anishinaabemowin classes as it is the traditional language of Pikangikum. This also allows the community to foster young minds while preserving the language. The EBS Anishinaabemowin Language Program works with Elders, teachers, community members etc. to allow students to gain a deeper understanding of the language.

The ALP was designed to provide teachers with:

  • Resources

  • Lesson planning assistance

  • Strategies to preserve the language

The ALP was designed to work in partnership with Native Language Teachers to provide students with:

  • A general understanding of the Anishinaabe language

  • A foundation of the language and skills to promote the use of Anishinaabemowin

  • An understanding and appreciation of Anishinaabemowin

The ALP also works in partnership with outside contributors to create videos and lessons that will preserve the stories of Elders and community members for many generations to come.
