Project Journey
The project aimed to cover a range of topics such as building relationships, self-image, capacity building, skill building and healthy choices. The objective was to increase opportunities for youth in the community to use local resources and pull people together to meet their needs.
Project Journey is now run entirely by Eenchokay Birchstick School and has a focus on Grade 5-8 to deliver the program specific curriculum. The curriculum is designed to teach students skills that culminate in a 5-day celebratory canoe trip that is truly an experience for the students.
Once the students graduate out of the program, they then become the junior leaders who have opportunities to do various community outreach programs. In the past this has included wood splitting for elders, Meals on Wheels and running the Bike Club. These junior leaders also act as counselors running programming for youth during the Spring and Summer breaks while participating in the Summer Youth Employment Program.
In the past, Project Journey expanded its programming to include family activities and art/cultural events to create positive experiences for youth and their families.
