Primary Anime Club

In Jr Anime club we do everything from catching Pokemon to powering up through training montages! Every week we drink matcha, watch a variety of shows, and hone our manga drawing skills together in 3B’s homeroom. We also make sure to try out yummy Japanese foods such as ramen and mochi!

Middle School Anime Club

In Middle School Anime Club we don't just watch anime and play video games. While enjoying our favourite anime, we talk about the process of animation and how animation has changed over time. As well as discussing elements of storytelling and examining tropes, cliches, and themes in our favourite series and movies. From time to time we host fun competitions related to drawing, writing, and gaming. And while enjoying some delicious snacks, we make some time to look at how we can connect the media we consume to the real world and our lives. The goal of this club is for students to develop their media literacy and storytelling skills in being able to identify and dissect the aspects of their favourite anime series; and learn how to critically analyze and critique story telling.

Karate Club

In Karate Club we are studying both Gōjū-ryū karate and Shotokan karate styles. Students are expected to learn formal dojo etiquette and protocols as well as basic Japanese terminology. In every class we make time to practice all of our basic techniques, kata, and kumite while making time for some fun games. And we also make time for students to learn and practice their self-defence, sparing and occasional kobudo training. The goal for all karate-ka is that they imbue the spirit of budo in that they find time in balancing studying the martial arts while also refining their artistic talent, studying hard, and striving to be a good community member. By the end of the year, we hope that students have at least mastered their basic katas, te waza and taikyoku shodan, as well as basic kumite, sanbon kumite and renzoku kumite geki sai dai ichi.

Choir

Our choir, consisting of students from grades 3 to 7, meets every Monday and Friday after school to practice and improve our singing skills. Throughout the school year, we have the wonderful opportunity to perform at events such as the Christmas concert, Remembrance ceremony, and Grade 8 graduation. Our main goal is to not only deliver enjoyable performances but also to ensure that everyone has a great time. We believe in spreading joy through music and creating lasting memories for all involved. Come join us as we make music and have fun together!

Soccer Club

The goal of the soccer club is to give students an enjoyable experience while developing skills for future participation in the sport of soccer. We work on various dribbling and passing techniques, positioning, and playing the game. Win or lose, we focus on good sportsmanship and enjoying the competition.

Reading Rockets

Reading Rockets uses a structured literacy approach to build student confidence and enjoyment of reading. Every Monday, our grade 2 and 3 students meet for a read aloud, snack and hands on literacy activities.

We even have a 4 tiered garden that we plant with edible plants so we can cook and bake with them! Join us if you care about making a positive difference to the environment in Pikangikum and the world!
